Premier Time!
Yes boys and girls, it is that time once again in this magical land of make-believe, that time when all the studios start to share their brand new shows with the world, or else continue telling the tales that have been on hold since last season ended! It's TV premier time in L.A., and the whole city is a-buzz with speculation about which shows will become the next Big Thing, which shows will crash and burn, and which shows will just continue to take up space between the other two. It's almost like Christmas! Seriously, there is scarcely a billboard in sight that is not promoting some new TV show, and the radio and TV ads are also saturated with claims of the 'next hit series' and 'most dramatic season ever!' Last night we all watched the series premiers of "Bones" on FOX, which is basically another crime-solving drama, albeit with the aid of a fantastic holographic projector that can recreate the face of a victim from the skull! I thought it was kind of lame. We also watched the premier of "Supernatural" on the WB, and that was actually a pretty good show. Sort of like the first few seasons of "X-Files" before the ridiculous alien abduction backstory started to take over. Tracy was nice enough to make dinner for us all last night, and for desert she made s'mores over the gas range, which we enjoyed during the spooky show with all the lights off. Slumber party fun! It is important to remember that this city was built and derives all of its energy and excitement from what the movie and TV studios produce, and it is vital that you not be caught unaware of what is going on. If you're in a casual conversation with someone, they will invariably ask you if you caught the premier of a show, and if you didn't, you had better have caught the premier of something else, and be prepared to comment on it! I walk around now with a constant fear of having the wrong answer during a Trendy Elevator Ride Pop Quiz. This city seems to move in cycles: currently we are in Fall TV Preview mode, which will last for about a month, then it will calm down until Christmas Movie Release time comes around, and the excitement will build again. For now, though, I must be going. I can't miss tonight's barage of premiers!
