There's Something In The Air!

So the last few days have been fairly crumby for pretty much everyone in the apartment. I thought it was something to do with the rain, and thought that maybe the normal downing effects of foul weather were amplified out here because it is usually so exceptionally nice. But after the second day of grumpyness and snapping at each other and generally wanting to spend all day in bed not talking to a soul, I decided to talk a look at the situation. Turns out that in addition to random earthquakes and chronic self-absorption, Los Angeles also suffers from another unique characteristic: the Santa Anna winds. Through a process that I do not completely understand, air rushing over a turbulent surface, like it does when it comes down off the Santa Anna hills, loses an electron and becomes negatively charged. This in turn effects people by negatively charging them as well. I know it sounds crazy, but I read an article that looked very scientific because it had no pictures whatsoever, and was written by a pair of guys who each had a string of letters behind their names. There's a similar situation in Germany called the Froehn, and a recorded increase in violent crime during these periods.

But enough of the bad stuff, on with the good news! First, Katie saw Phillip Seymour Hoffman at Paramount the other day, which I think we decided is the biggest star she has seen yet. He was there because he is in Mission: Impossible III, which I think is below him, but I suppose a paycheck is a paycheck. Also, I finally got to see the famous car scene from "Bullitt" which I have heard so much about but never actually seen. I can say definitively that if Steve McQueen had been behind the wheel of a Camaro, the chase would have been over much sooner. We got a Sharper Image Christmas catalogue in the mail by accident. Katie read it and spent the whole time asking why anyone would want a remote control dog feeder or anamatronic chimpanzees. Obviously she is not a guy, as all those things are extremely cool and serve a vital purpose. And finally, Katie just made a batch of chocolate chip cookies, which signals both the end of my longing for sweets and the end of this installment of SmogBlog.
